Idea for burlesque at former Champions golf site rejected

An informal meeting, attended by about 50 people, was held in August for a proposed restaurant/bar/entertainment spot, to be called “Moonlight Burlesque,” at the south edge of the Holland Park neighborhood.
Most speakers at the meeting expressed opposition; however, the proposal was rendered moot afterward when a representative of the property's ownership, Celebrity Golf LLC, told the Westside Pioneer that the owners “do not support it, and they have never been under contract with the group that held the meeting or any of its principals.”
The nearly 27-acre site is the former Champions Golf & Games at the southwest corner of Chestnut Street and Vondelpark Drive, which closed 13 years ago.
Another developer already has a contract on the property, according to information received by Mike Schultz of Colorado Springs Planning.
The ownership representative, who asked to remain anonymous, emphasized in a statement that the owners are “actively pursuing redevelopment to take care of the homelessness and vandalism on the property.”
The Pioneer had written an advance article online about the meeting, based on information from the restaurant proponents that they at least had a chance of purchasing the property. However, the owners have no interest in selling to that group, the representative has since made clear.
