Biz Buzz:
Full circle for Schmidt Building

With the added feature of outdoor seating, the Wobbly Olive opened this summer at 2611 W. Colorado Ave. in Old Colorado City.

The courtyard seating outside the Wobbly Olive is seen from the West Colorado Avenue sidewalk area. The business' location is the ground floor of Old Colorado City's historic Schmidt Building.

It's on the ground floor of the historic, two-story Schmidt Building. As a place that serves alcohol - with a particular focus on martinis - as well as dinner and appetizers, the business circles back to the brick structure's origin in 1904 as Jacob Schmidt's beer hall.
It's the second Wobbly Olive in Colorado Springs. Both were started and owned by area residents Sean and Inez Fitzgerald. The first, opened in 2014, is on the Colorado Springs east side (off Powers Boulevard).
Anita Ray, general manager of the OCC locale, said that Sean wanted to open a second Wobbly Olive on the Westside, “but couldn't find the right fit.” But when he saw the Schmidt Building, “he knew the minute he walked in.”
In years past, the building mostly had retail enterprises on its ground floor (with the upstairs typically leased for office space). The last such store was Lorig's western clothing, which left in 2017 and led to the building's purchase by Harold Fong and Martha Bartz, who also own OCC's historic Willard Building in the 2500 block.
The Fitzgeralds' extensive remodel replaced the patio grass with pavers, built a wrought-iron fence perimeter and created outdoor seating for 40 people. Indoors, the capacity is 78, Ray said.
The business is open daily. The phone is 308-2619. The website is wobblyolive.com.

       Dumpster rentals offered
Colorado Springs Westsiders needing short-term dumpster rentals have a nearby location in Plum Crazy Roll-Offs, 2004 W. Platte Ave.
Three sizes are offered (4, 10 and 15-yard) for seven days each, with “additional rental days upon request,” the Plum Crazy website states.
Rick Clouse, a Westsider himself, is the business owner. He had owned and managed Use Again Building Materials on this side of town for 26 years and added the dumpster-rental service six years ago.
Recently deciding “it was a time for a change,” Clouse began focusing entirely on the roll-offs, he said. This led to the business name changing to Plum Crazy Roll-Offs.
“We deliver anywhere in Colorado Springs Monday to Friday,” he explained. “After-hour deliveries are available by appointment.”
The phone numbers are 473-2150 and 351-1621; the website is plumcrazyrolloffs.com.
