Workdays at Garden of the Gods
The Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI) has 10 upcoming projects, scheduled in May and June, to repair erosion issues in the Garden of the Gods.
Workdays with openings for volunteers are May 7, 8, 14, 15 and 21; and June 4, 5, 19, 25 and 26. RMFI is a nonprofit organization, based on the Westside, focused on public-land conservation. Students on the move A “Walk-A-Thon” to raise money for the West Campus is scheduled at the school Friday, May 13 from 9 to 9:30 a.m. The community is welcome to take part. The campus consists of West Elementary and Middle School (cumulatively grades K-8), in the 1900 block of West Pikes Peak Avenue. Between the two, there are close to 650 students. “This is our primary fundraiser for the school year,” states a press release from the recently formed West Campus PTA. “One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the school.” For more information, call PTA President Jessica Thompson at 359-6966. Dog Memorial dedication The recently built memorial at El Paso County's Bear Creek Dog Park will be dedicated in a public ceremony at the site Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. The event is planned by the volunteer Friends of Bear Creek Dog Park, which works with El Paso County Parks on improvements at the popular, free-access, 20-acre facility off 21st at Rio Grande streets.
