       Buffalo Soldiers Memorial Highway
Through a Joint Resolution of the Colorado Legislature, Highway 24 from I-25 to about the Manitou Springs interchange has been designated the Buffalo Soldiers Memorial Highway.
“Buffalo soldiers” was a nickname that American Indians gave to the black Army men who fought them in the Old West.
A press release states that “these soldiers supported the settling of Colorado through road-building, assisted civil authorities in peace-keeping efforts and participated in many important military conflicts.” This honor will add prominence to the Westside's tourism corridor.
The idea was brought forward by the area's Buffalo Soldiers Community Memorial Committee. Local State Senators Kent Lambert and Michael Merrifield spearheaded the bipartisan effort in the Statehouse, with backing from Representa-tives Terri Carver and Pete Lee. Well done!
       Report suspicious activity to police
If you see something that looks suspicious, report it to 444-7000. Your gut instinct is usually right. CSPD patrols are based upon reports from us citizens. Cell phone pictures are very helpful and help our officers know what to look for.
Any cell phone pictures/ videos of suspicious activity along the West Colorado Avenue corridor can be emailed to cspdpeakstation@ci.colospgs.co.us. Let's keep our neighborhood safer, stay alert.
       Fraud Alert
Residents are receiving phone calls from people who identify themselves as CSPD officers. The callers attempt to solicit money by stating that they are CSPD officers raising money for the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs. The phone calls are very similar to past fraudulent attempts to gain money that used the name of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office or the Fountain Police Depart-ment. The CSPD would never call citizens to raise money. Any phone call that attempts to solicit money on behalf of CSPD is engaging in a criminal act that should be reported to 719-444-7000.
