Fire destroys 105-year-old house on avenue
The Westside lost one of it older houses Dec. 7 when fire broke out in a 3,708-square-foot single-family home at 1726 W. Colorado Ave. and caused so much
damage that fire officials declared it a total loss.
![]() The house was vacant at the time. No one was injured. The Colorado Springs Fire Department estimated the loss at approximately $140,000 - just over its market value, as shown by the County Assessor's Office, of $139,633. Built in 1903, the 3,708-square-foot house has been owned as a rental property since 1988 by Westside business owner/developer Mark Cunningham. A tenant had recently been evicted from the house, he said afterward. A Fire Department press release this week states that the cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire, which was reported at 1:26 p.m., was battled by crews from the Westside's Fire Stations 3 and 5, who kept the blaze from spreading to the houses on either side.
