‘Holiday Evenings’ Dec. 15-16 at Rock Ledge

       Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will celebrate the season in 19th century style Friday and Saturday, Dec. 15-16 for Holiday Evenings.
       Scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. both nights, the event will provide a luminaria-lit opportunity to visit the city-owned, old-time working ranch and its historic buildings and join in numerous activities. These include:
  • Tours of the homestead cabin, Chambers Rock Ledge House and Orchard House, led by interpreters in period clothing.
  • Carriage House activities, including a Victorian Saint Nicholas and a chance to make decorations with bright colored paper and glitter.
  • Bonfires for roasting marshmallows and joining in outdoor caroling.
  • Live traditional music from Jodie Adams, Mark Gardner and Tom O'Boyle.
  • A barn dance at 7 p.m., called by Merrell Folsom and music by the Heritage Dancers and the Beadle Family Band.
  • A Civil War encampment. Visitors can interact with the soldiers and camp followers.
  • Other activities, including candle-dipping, “jingle bell” wagon rides and the lighting of the plum pudding.
           Also, people can bring donations for Rock Ledge's clothing drive for the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe.
           Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for ages 13 to 18 and 55 and over, $1 for ages 6 to 12, and free for 5 and under. The fee includes all activities except food and photos with St. Nick. Entry is at the admissions hut by the ranch parking lot southwest of 30th Street and Gateway Road. For more information, call 578-6777.
