GuestHouse, History Center on B&B Tour

The Old Town GuestHouse and Old Colorado City History Center will again represent the Westside in the 18th annual Holiday Bed & Breakfast Tour Sunday, Dec. 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. Also on the tour, which is a fundraiser for the Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS), will be four inns and three downtown churches.
Participants on the self-guided tour will be treated to refreshments and personal tours at each location. Costs for OCCHS non-members is $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event. Special group prices are also offered. Tickets are available in advance at the History Center, 1 S. 24th St.
For more information, call 636-1225 or e-mail board@occhs.org.
This will be the seventh straight year for the GuestHouse, 115 S. 26th St., a historically styled, eight-room B&B owned by Don and Shirley Wick. According to Shirley, when the weather's not too cold or snowy, up to 300 visitors typically come by during the tour's four hours. Getting the place ready, with decorations inside and out, “is work, but it's fun,” she said.
A large tree will be set up in the GuestHouse's front room, with visitors being served tea and scones as well as coffee, she said.
The History Center was built in 1890 as the First Baptist Church of Colorado City and renovated by the OCCHS as a museum/bookstore in 1997.
Other participating B&B's this year are the Blue Skies Inn & Carriage House, the Lennox House and the Rockledge Country Inn. The churches are the St. George's Anglican Church, First Congregational Church (UCC) and 1st Christian Church.
