The contractor is Langston Concrete of Florence. Completion is scheduled before Christmas, and there should be no impact on the public, other than the temporary closure of a walking trail through the 9.6-acre property, Kelley said. “The existing pond provides zero water quality and detains very little water, allowing most of it to pass through the pond,” he explained. “Improvements will include adding a forebay at the inlet pipe to collect
Located on the south side of King Street's 2200 block - a residential part of the Westside - the detention pond collects stormwater from the developed hillside above it, after which the water is released into underwater storm drains leading to Fountain Creek. The pond was one of 71 sites formally identified as needing stormwater fixes in the city's intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Pueblo in 2016. The city's recently passed Stormwater Enterprise fee is expected to pay for most of those projects over the next 20 years. The IGA had listed the King cost at $250,000, but that was a “very rough estimate and very low,” Kelley said. “We had to make up the difference needed from other project budgets... We're very excited to deliver this project.” Crews had previously worked on the King detention pond in 2014, in a $100,000 maintenance project that included work around the outfall and its channel.
