Meet a Westsider:
Lela Mylne
Profession/Occupation...
Receptionist/ office manager at Aspenwood Animal Clinic.
What I like most about the Westside is... the community/small-town feel. I like the community events on the Westside and in Bancroft Park, such as the Halloween, Easter and Christmas events, the blues music in the summer, the Farmers’ Market and the annual community picnic. It gives people a chance to meet the locals. If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... that the houses be kept tidy. You’ll see a beautifully manicured house next to one that’s an eyesore. A good movie I’ve seen recently is... "The Blind Side," about a homeless teen that gets taken in by a family, wins a football scholarship and now is a pro football player. I like movies that are based on true life events, like this one is. I'd like to discover... a cure for cancer, because I’ve had family and friends die of cancer. If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... George Washington, the first president. It’d be interesting to know what his ideas were on forming our new country, America. I’m adopted from India and am very proud to be an American. The next time I travel, I’m going... Indiana for the wedding of a girl that I was a nanny to for three years. My favorite childhood memory is... playing in the snow and sledding. My favorite fall pastime is... watching the leaves change colors. Something good I’ve read is... I enjoy reading magazines such as Good Housekeeping and Reminisce (a nostalgia magazine with stories and vintage photos). I also like reading history books. My pet peeve is... rude people and crazy drivers. If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... be off travelling or doing life study/work for the Peace Corps or for a mission group. It’d be a great way to see the world and learn other customs and ways of life. Meet a Westsider” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you would like to be a Meet-a-Westsider (or know someone who should be), please give us a call at 471-6776. |
