Updates provided on the other ‘04 Westside RTA ‘A’ projects

       In the 2004 election, voters were promised that the A-list projects for the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (RTA) would all be completed in the 2005-14 time frame.
       The Oct. 18 Westside Pioneer provided an update on one of the four 2004 A-list projects chosen for the Westside: Chestnut Street and Garden of the Gods Road, for which a private consultant is preparing an analysis to define an upgrade project in 2014.
       Another “A” project (the Fillmore corridor) is just starting construction. See story starting on Page 1 and continuing below.
       Here are updates on the other two Westside “A” projects from 2004:
  • 30th Street safety improvements. Completed in 2007 at a cost of $77,000. The work mostly involved shoulder upgrades to allow safer left turns from northbound 30th into the Navigators and Glen Eyrie facilities.
  • 25th Street bridge over Fountain Creek at Naegele Road. This is still being studied in-house. The ballot issue had called for the bridge's replacement, but with the state planning to eliminate Naegele in a future Highway 24 widening project, the city has been considering rehabilitating the existing structure instead.
