Independent paint store opens in Red Rock center where Blockbuster used to be
Colorado City Paint recently opened after a few months of renovation. The address is 3141 W. Colorado Ave. The doors are open Monday through Saturday. The owner is Rachel Melat-Robnett, who has been a painter and contractor for more than 20 years. The general manager is Bob Keller, who's worked in Benjamin Moore retail stores for more than 15 years. The business carries a full line of Benjamin Moore paints. However, Rachel pointed out that her store is not a franchise, because the Benjamin Moore company does not work that way. “You will never see this brand in a big box store,” she said. “Benjamin Moore believes in the independent, small-business owner.” Other products include Lenmar stains, lacquers and other coatings; TriTech airless spray equipment; and an “extensive line of sundries, drywall supplies, and hardware,” Rachel said. “We also have a machine that can put literally any paint, in any color, in any sheen into a can of spray paint.” In the future, she plans to have Colorado City Paints host professional painting seminars; she would also like to involve her business in the community. Rachel said she chose the Westside to start her business, based on her background as a “Colorado Springs native who grew up in this part of town. When I began considering opening this store a number of years ago, the Westside was my immediate thought for location. The fact that there are no other paint stores around here was just a wonderful coincidence.” For more information, call 309-6391 or e-mail rachel@cocitypaint.com.
