Bee activity, free ice cream at Old Colorado City Library on morning of Sept. 27

       The annual Carnegie Day will involve a “double program” at the Old Colorado City Library Saturday, Sept. 27, starting at 10 a.m.
       A return activity will be the “Carnegie Day Ice Cream Social,” in which library staff and volunteers will hand out free scoops of ice cream in front of the facility at 2418 W. Pikes Peak Ave. Following the annual Coronado High Homecoming Parade - which will start at 9 a.m. and climax with a pep rally in nearby Bancroft Park - the treats will be offered until noon as a way of honoring Andrew Carnegie, the industrial magnate (later philanthropist) whose $10,000 gift enabled the Old Colorado City Library's construction in 1904.
       The second 10 a.m. activity, a monthly “Family Fun” event expected to last about an hour, is entitled “Bees!” According to the library's Trish Blakely, the Pikes Peak Beekeepers group will bring a container of bees for observation purposes. “Learn about these fascinating 'bee-ings' and a make a buzzy craft,” she writes in a press release.
