Renovations to close GoG Visitor Center from Oct. 1 to Nov. 14
“We are currently working on solutions to provide visitor services and educational opportunities for park visitors [during that time],” said center spokesperson Dolores Davis. “We anticipate reopening in time for the Thanksgiving holiday to accommodate visiting friends and families.” Otherwise, the center at 1850 N. 30th St. continues to be open daily. The nonprofit facility offers exhibits, programs, tours, park information and a gift shop. The renovations are “in anticipation and celebration of our 20th anniversary May 15, 2015,” Davis said. The project, which started last January, is aimed at improving visitor services. The checklist includes updated restrooms, a wider interior stairway, upstairs retail enhancements (now complete), a second lower-level entrance and more exhibit space on the north side of the building. Despite the ongoing construction, “the 2014 summer season has been very busy,” Davis said. “We've had a remarkable number of visitors.”
