Citywide thefts of copper from city streetlight poles since May have cost Colorado Springs Utilities and its customers more than $600,000.
Utilities suggests two ways that citizens can help.
When a section of street lights (three in a row) is no longer functioning, call 444-4800 (press option 1).
In many of the thefts, it appears that suspects pull up to light poles in some type of work truck. The only authorized vehicles for light-pole work are clearly marked
“Colorado Springs Utilities” or “Hamblin Electric.” If vehicles marked otherwise are seen, call CSPD at 444-7000.
