‘Indian War of 1868’ topic of OCCHS talk
“The Indian War of 1868” is the title of a presentation by Dr. Jeff Broome, an Arapahoe Community College philosophy professor, at the Old Colorado City History
Center, 1 S. 24th St., Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m.
With a subtitle of “Indian Depredation Claims as a New Source for History,” the talk will address the 10,000 individual claims that were filed by settlers during that era and how these are a source for researching and writing history - with particular application to the Colorado/ Kansas Indian war of 1868. The presentation is free, although donations are welcome. Dr. Broome is a published author and recipient of a fellowship from the Buffalo Bill Historical Center (2001, 2003) in Cody, Wyo. He is descended from a pioneer family that settled near Pueblo in 1863. No reservations are needed, but seating is limited. For more information, call the History Center at 636-1225.
