Meet a Westsider:
Patsy Hughes

Profession/Occupation... housewife.

What I like most about the Westside is... the small-town feeling – slow- moving and quiet. Its location – knowing I can easily go anywhere in the city, if I need to – hearing its vast history gives me warm feelings and appreciation for my neighbors.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... nothing. I would hope it will stay the same.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... “The Turning Point,” for the wurpteenth time.

The worst advice I’ve ever gotten was... don’t marry David – my husband of 51 years now.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Condoleeza Rice.

The next time I travel, I’m going to... the Holy Land, and also Egypt, Iraq and Turkey.

My favorite childhood memory is... rushing a block from my home across the bridge over the moat, through the sally port, climbing up the roundparts to watch the 5 o’clock retreat ceremony at Ft. Monroe, VA, and see the lowering of the flag with a live cannon and bugler.

My favorite summer pastime is... cooking.

Something good I’ve read is.. nursery rhymes for my great-granddaughter.

My pet peeve is... people who mumble – but I’m told I could cure that gripe by getting a hearing aid.

If I won the lottery, I’d... not tell anyone and quietly indulge my family and contribute lavishly to my favorite charities anonymously.
