 A crew this week was working on the residential/commercial-office addition at the rear of the 1889 building at the northeast corner of 26th and Colorado. The 1,500-square-foot structure at the northeast corner of 26th Street and Colorado Avenue, which has an original construction date of 1889 (according to local historian Dave Hughes), will double in size in the 1,700-square-foot commercial/residential project by property owner Daryl Slinkard.
The work is between the rear (north wall) of the 1889 building and the public parking lot. The foundation was poured last October. Slinkard said this week that the current phase will construct the exterior walls and roof, but will leave the interior unfinished until he gets some commercial tenants.
Slinkard has said that while the addition will not be made of brick, like the 1889 building, its stucco veneer will be painted a matching red color.
Art Walk receptions
Two galleries have announced artist receptions in conjunction with the monthly Old Colorado City Art Walk Friday, Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Hunter-Wolff Gallery, 2510 W. Colorado Ave., will present an exhibition of nudes by painter Gene Sanchez; and Arati Artists of Old Colorado City, 2425 W. Colorado Ave., will focus on works by watercolorists Larry Haught and Lorraine Watry.
In addition, Hunter-Wolff will offer a demonstration from 6 to 8 p.m., during which guest artist Sparky LeBold will use a live model to illustrate his process.
Other participating galleries are All that Glitters, Cucuru Gallery Café, Michael Garman Museum, Pine Creek Art Gallery, Range Gallery, The Second Floor Studios, Simpich Showcase, Squash Blossom, Velez Galleries and Thunder Mountain Trading Co.
The Art Walk locations typically have artists on hand, music and/or refreshments.

Sauer chairs CBA
D. Edward Sauer, president and CEO of the Bank at Broadmoor, will serve a second term as chair of the Colorado Bankers Association (CBA) through June 30, 2011. He has been a CBA member since 2001.
The CBA represents over 90 percent of the $103 billion in assets within the 193 Colorado banks, a press release states.
The Bank at Broadmoor has four Colorado Springs locations, including 3216 West Colorado Ave.
