Biz Buzz:
Expansion begins on Old Town building
Framing has started on a major expansion to one of Old Colorado City's oldest buildings.
The 1,500-square-foot structure at the northeast corner of 26th Street and Colorado Avenue, which has an original construction date of 1889 (according to local historian Dave Hughes), will double in size in the 1,700-square-foot commercial/residential project by property owner Daryl Slinkard. The work is between the rear (north wall) of the 1889 building and the public parking lot. The foundation was poured last October. Slinkard said this week that the current phase will construct the exterior walls and roof, but will leave the interior unfinished until he gets some commercial tenants. Slinkard has said that while the addition will not be made of brick, like the 1889 building, its stucco veneer will be painted a matching red color.
