According to Terry Brunette of the Regional Building Department, the building came within two days of a city-ordered demolition several months ago, triggered by a bad foundation, but the owner, Alma Patrick, who owns numerous area rentals, decided to fix it up instead.
There was a cost advantage for the owner. Because of the city order (based on the 1,192-square-foot structure having been deemed unsafe and put on the city's condemned-buildings for a few years), “You're looking at a minimum of fifty to sixty thousand to tear it down and then you'd have to deed it to the city,” Brunette explained. But by doing the repair - for about the same expense - the owner gets to keep the building.
The contractor is Canyon Village Homes, headed by area builder Ron Hall.
