In memoriam: Floyd Frame, area band leader, known for concerts in Bancroft Park

His “Soft Summer Nights” series in July and August were a Bancroft tradition until the city stopped funding most summer concerts in 2008. More recently, he had conducted bands in the Old Colorado City park for the annual Westside Neighbors Picnic in 2009 and 2010.
But in 2010, Floyd was slowed by a heart attack and triple bypass surgery.
He was a resident of Colorado Springs nearly all his life, graduating from Colorado Springs High School in 1946 and Colorado College in 1954 with a masters in music. Floyd began playing the trumpet at the age of 10 and became a professional musician at 13.
Surviving family include his wife Jerolyn, two children and seven grandchildren.
He was the first instrumental music teacher in Harrison School District 2. It was where he worked for close to 40 years and met his wife, who was also a music teacher there.
During the early years in his career, Floyd ran the instrumental music program for District 2, played in a dance band seven nights a week, taught private trumpet lessons, was president of the Pikes Peak Musician's Association and ran a real estate business on the side.
He became the director of the Colorado Springs Community Band in 1982 and started the Colorado Springs Community Jazz Band in 1984. He started the Midland Brass Group in 1994 and retired from District 2 in 1996.
A funeral service is scheduled Monday, July 27 at 11 a.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd.
