Old Colorado City Historical Society brings back 'Tunnel Tales' July 17
An old trap door, left open for viewing only
during the 2015 Tunnel Tales event (but closed at other times), showed the
starting point of a tunnel in the basement of what is now the Squash Blossom
Gallery.

A different twist is that the walking tour will be guided in small groups (rather than self-guided), allowing a steadier flow of people to each of five legendary tunnel entrance locations in Old Colorado City.
People can choose their tour times. Costumed characters will tell the history of each site.
Colorado City in the late 1800s and early 1900s was known for having tunnels under Colorado Avenue and others going to Pikes Peak Avenue. Lending historical intrigue is the fact that some of the tunnels were dug to accommodate people who felt they needed secrecy to enjoy the seamier side of Colorado City life.
The cost for the tour is $25 a person. Each will also receive a booklet with maps and historic information, an OCCHS press release states. Reservations can be made at the Old Colorado City History Center, 1 S. 24th St. (including the day of the event), or by calling the center at 636-1225.
