Secret Garden seeks approval to sell liquor
The Secret Garden would be able to sell liquor during weddings, conferences and other special events, under an application to the city.
Owner/operator Steve Muzzipapa said he is currently allowed to have alcohol at such events, but no sales are allowed. The Secret Garden is a nursery on about 1 ½ acres off Sheldon Avenue and 19th Street that Muzzipapa started planting 20 years ago and now rents out as an event location. “Sometimes a family hosting a wedding wants an open bar or a partial or straight-cash bar,” he said. “The reality is having to deal with it, to watch people and to card people. So I thought, why not make some revenue from it?” His liquor license request includes a request to City Planning for a variance to allow a 20-foot separation from a residential property where 200 feet is required.
