Talk on baseball's pre-integration Negro Leagues at History Center June 24
The program will start at 6 p.m. Admission is free for members of the Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS), $5 for non-members. The talk is titled “Kansas City Monarchs.” That was the name of one of the best known Negro League teams during the 20th century. Before the integration of Major League baseball with Jackie Robinson in 1947, the Negro Leagues were the highest level open for black players. In a local connection, the Monarchs played Colorado Springs' black baseball team in 1934, according to a History Center press release. An all-volunteer organization, the OCCHS welcomes new members. For more information, call 636-1225 or come by the center during working hours, Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
