Ambassadors on OCC sidewalks answer visitor questions, look out for crime
Starting June 10 and continuing Fridays to Sundays (from 1 to 6 p.m.) through Aug. 7, city-trained volunteers in bright green shirts are scheduled to be out on the sidewalks greeting people and handing out informational material. The volunteers are trained through the City Police CAPS (Community Advancing Public Safety) program “to serve our citizens and guests while providing extra sets of eyes and ears for law enforcement,” a press release states. The effort will help keep the two targeted areas (OCC and downtown) “vibrant and welcoming,” the release adds. In Old Colorado City, the Ambassadors are operating in conjunction with the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) business group, with the OCCA's Welcome Center at 2324 W. Colorado Ave. as the gathering point.
