Rock weathering subject of talk/walk at Red Rock Canyon June 6 The second in a series of summer “talk-and-walks” at the Red Rock Canyon Open Space Pavilion will be Friday, June 6, starting at 5:30 p.m.Sponsored by the Friends of Red Rock Canyon, the topic will be the weathering of rocks. The speaker will be Brandon Vogt, who will talk, then lead a hike to illustrate weathering's effects in the park. There is no charge to attend. “At a place like RRCOS, where steep rock fins dominate the landscape, rock weathering is king,” a press release states. The presentation will “discuss weathering's role in shaping, coloring, and adding texture to the exposed rock. We'll see gnamma pits, tafoni, rock coatings, case-hardened surfaces, and more!” Signups are being taken at friends@redrockcanyonopenspace.org or 685-4792.
