Rock Ledge Ranch features sheep activities for season-opening day June 4

Opening day for the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will be Saturday, June 4. In keeping with tradition, it will feature demonstrations of sheep-shearing and sheep-dog herding skills, as well as demonstrations by the Pikes Peak Weavers Guild.
       The event will kick off a summer season that continues until Aug. 20.
       Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 55-and-up, $4 for ages 6-17 and free for younger children.
       Ranch admission also allows access to the American Indian Area, Galloway Homestead, blacksmith shop, Carriage House and historic Rock Ledge and Orchard houses. The city-owned facility is off Gateway Road at 30th Street.
       Regular hours are Wednesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
       The ranch also has a number of annual, special events during the warmer months. These are as follows:
       - Basic Blacksmith Workshop, Saturday and Sunday, June 18-19, hands-on workshop with ranch manager/craftsman Andy Morris ($150, reservations required).
       - Family Fourth, Sunday, July 4 - music and speeches/activities featuring historical reenactors commemorating American independendence (normal admission price);
       - Fiddles, Vittles & Vino, Sunday, July 31 - live, outdoor bluegrass music and samples from ranch-supporting restaurants and beverage producers/distributors ($45 before July 20 and $50 after that; ages 12 and under $20 and later $25).
       - Shakespeare at the Ranch - presentation of “Antony and Cleopatra” by Theatreworks actors in a large tent, Tuesdays through Saturdays, July 28-Aug. 20 ($36-$42 for adults, $18 for 17 and under). Call 255-3232 or go to theaterworkscs.org.
       Special events scheduled later in the year are the Labor Day Vintage Baseball Game (Sept. 5), Holly Berry Folk Art Festival (Sept. 16-18), Garden of the Gods Powwow (Sept. 24), Harvest Festival (Oct. 1 - free), Everything But the Oink (Nov. 12) and Holiday Evening (Dec. 17).
