Forum for D-1, D-3 hopefuls downtown March 7
A forum for the City Council candidates in Districts 1 and 3 will be held in the Centennial Hall auditorium, 200 S. Cascade Ave., Thursday, March 7 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Between them, Districts 1 and 3 include all the Westside (unofficially de-fined as west of I-25, north of Cheyenne/Broadmoor, east of Manitou Springs and south of Garden of the Gods Road). “We hope you will be able to attend this important and free neighborhood event,” reads a press release from the Organization of Westside Neighbors (OWN), which is working with other neighborhood associations on the event. “All declared District 1 and 3 candidates have been invited.” According to OWN President Welling Clark, District 1 candidates will answer a prepared set of questions from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and District 3 will do the same from 7:30 to 8:30. Candidates will also have tables in the lobby, where meeting attendees can have one-on-one conversations with the various hopefuls. The boundary between the districts roughly follows Uintah Street and (west of 31st Street) the streets just north of Colorado Avenue. District 1 candidates are Joe Barrera, Don Knight, Tim Leigh, Linda Mojer and Julie Naye. District 3 candidates are Jim Bensberg, Tom Gallagher, Keith King, Bob Kinsey and Brandy Williams. The top vote-getter in each district will have a four-year term. The deadline for the mail-in ballots is April 2. Clark said OWN is organizing the forum with help from other neighborhood associations, including the Pleasant Valley Community Association For more information, call 471-4023 or e-mail westsideneighbors@yahoo.com.
