Westside schools: West food drive successful

The Harvest of Love food drive at West Middle School brought in donations of 1,705 pounds of canned good and
$570 in cash, according to Heather Sanchez, social studies teacher and student council sponsor. The collections were turned
over to Care and Share.
A parent and student informational meeting for the EAGLES program at Whittier Elementary is scheduled in the school gym, 2904 W. Kiowa St., Tuesday, February 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. For more information, call 328-4900. EAGLES (also the school mascot) is an acronym for Exceptional Academic Gifted Learning Experience. The program is open to any elementary students in grades 3-5 who have been identified as gifted. Applications are being taken for the SAIL program at West Middle School, 1920 W. Pikes Peak Ave., for the 2006- 07 school year. The program is open to any middle school students who have been identified as gifted. Bijou Alternative School English teacher Nancy Gibbs will be honored with the Colorado Springs Rotary Club's “Diamond Award - A Cut Above Teacher” recognition award after being nominated by her students. The awards ceremony will be Friday, Feb. 3 at the Rotary Club's luncheon. The award was established by the Rotary to honor exellence in high school teachers.
