Silver Key building reopens with porta-johns
However, the restroom facilities for now will have to be porta-johns, according to Lorri Orwig, chief development officer for the nonprofit agency that provides services to the region's senior population. Silver Key is at 2250 Bott Ave. The building's doors will open at 8 a.m. The original announcement Jan. 28 had stated that the cause for closing the building was broken pipes, but the problem turned out to be a blocked sewer line on a line behind Silver Key's property, she said. Interviewed the afternoon of Jan. 29, Orwig did not yet know how long the porta-johns will be required. She noted that the time frame depends on how long Colorado Springs Utilities needs to make repairs, and the weather could be a factor. Normal Silver Key services, including transportation, Meals on Wheels and case management, have not been disrupted by the problem, she added. For more information, call 632-1521.
